The Commonwealth Fund and AcademyHealth's strategic initiative, Building Bridges: Making a Difference in Long-Term Care provides an opportunity for long-term care stakeholders to exchange information, debate the issues, seek solutions, and identify where additional research is needed.

The initiative seeks to foster development of a network of long-term care researchers, policy leaders, providers, consumer representatives, and funders through a series of annual colloquia and ongoing workgroup discussions among conference participants and others.

June 27, 2009
8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The sixth annual LTC Colloquium, sponsored by The Commonwealth Fund and conducted by AcademyHealth, will feature two presentations. Haiden Huskamp, Ph.D., associate professor, Department of Health Care Policy, Harvard Medical School, will present highlights from a synthesis paper on the intersection between LTC and end-of-life care co-authored with David Stevenson, S.M., Ph.D., assistant professor, Department of Health Care Policy, Harvard Medical School. Howard Gleckman, senior research associate, The Urban Institute, will present highlights from a synthesis paper on LTC financing reform with a focus on lessons from the U.S. and abroad. Both presentations will be followed by commentary from a panel of experts, as well as table discussions among participants. Register today.

The kick-off colloquium was held on Saturday, June 5, 2004 in San Diego, California. It featured an impressive lineup of speakers and focused on two important issues: the use of information and information-based strategies for promoting quality improvement in long-term care, and the challenges of providing long-term care to the dual-eligible population.

The Building Bridges initiative supports the publication and dissemination of articles and issue briefs based on themes explored by annual Colloquia and Policy Seminars. The latest issue brief highlights a panel discussion addressing consumer-preparedness for long-term care.
