Sen. Kennedy Honored for Contributions to
Health Services Research and Health Policy

WASHINGTON, DC (December 12, 2008) - United States Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) was presented with AcademyHealth's Chair Award on Wednesday, December 10 in recognition of his support for using health services research to inform health policy. The award was accepted on Sen. Kennedy's behalf by Senior Health Advisor, Kavita Patel.

As the chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Sen. Kennedy has championed the importance of translating health services research findings into policies to improve health care for the American people.

The Chair Award recognizes a national leader who has significantly contributed to moving health services research into policy and practice. It is presented at the discretion of the chair of the AcademyHealth Board of Directors with approval from the Executive Committee. The award was presented by Margarita Alegría, 2008 chair of AcademyHealth's Board of Directors, and W. David Helms, AcademyHealth president and CEO. Past recipients include John Inglehart, Sen. William Frist, M.D., and John M. Eisenberg, M.D.
